In the years during which I had the Glevum I came to love the views of Bristol City Docks and in these pictures I have tried to capture some of the romance of the docks when they were still bustling with shipping from all over the world.

When I first came to live in Bristol in 1969 ships were still delivering cargoes into the heart of the city. It was one of my greatest delights to be able to sketch them around the docks. Sadly all commercial activity ceased in the late 1980s when the sand dredgers moved to Avonmouth

Few cities are lucky enough to have a harbour that extends right through the city centre. This view of St Mary Redcliffe Church is almost unchanged today.
